Every designer and brand professional remembers their "First Client." For me, that milestone came in 2019, right when I started my BBA journey. It wasn't just a project; it was the birth of my professional identity.
The Opportunity
My immediate senior, Sharmin Apur, founded a beautiful social initiative called "Dui Takay Hashimukh Poribar" (Smile for Two Taka). Having recently completed a Graphic Design course and constantly pushing myself to learn the ropes of branding, I was eager to put my skills to the test. Sharmin Apur trusted me with the most critical part of the organization’s visual presence: Designing their official Logo and Membership ID Cards.
The Hustle: Concept to Reality
I remember the sheer excitement of receiving my first-ever professional advance payment. It wasn't about the amount; it was the validation of my craft.
I spent days and nights brainstorming concepts that would reflect the mission of the organization. After presenting several drafts, the final logo and ID card design were approved. But I didn't stop at the design—I wanted to ensure the final product was perfect. I personally managed the printing, lamination, and assembly of the ID cards with holders and ribbons to make them "ready-to-wear" for the members.
Impact and Growth
Delivering the final batch within just two days was a challenge, but seeing the members wear my design was an incomparable feeling. It taught me three vital lessons that I still carry today as a Brand Executive:
- Ownership: Treating a client's brand as your own.
- Deadline Management: Delivering quality work under tight schedules.
- End-to-End Execution: Understanding that a design isn't finished until it reaches the hands of the user.
Looking back at the photos of those ID cards lined up in front of my PC, I realize that was the moment I stopped being just a student and started becoming a Brand Professional.
